Grouping Guidelines 1. Unplasticized PVC pipes for water supplies as per IS 4985:2021 are categorized into following groups for the purpose of GoL/ CSoL: a) Based on Size, Class and Pressure rating of pipes: Class of Pipe Working Pressure (PN) MPa Group-1 Group-2 Group-3 1 0.25 90-110 125-315 355-630 2 0.40 63-110 125-315 355-630 3 0.60 40-110 125-315 355-630 4 0.80 25-110 125-315 355-630 5 1.00 20-110 125-315 355-630 6 1.25 20-110 125-315 355-630 Plumbing pipes - 20-50 - - b) Based on ends of pipe: (i) Plain ended pipes (ii) Socketed for elastomeric sealing ring jointing (iii) Socketed for solvent cement jointing c) Based on the application of pipe: (i) Type A (Pipes for water supply) (ii) Type B (Pipes for agricultural use) Note: Type A and Type B are grouped under one group of variety for the purpose of GoL/CSoL, since all the requirements for Type A pipes (water supply) and Type B pipes (agricultural use) remain the same except the additional marking required on Type A pipes as per Clause 13.1.2 of IS 4985:2021. d) Additional Requirement (if applicable): Lead-Free (LF) pipes (pipes manufactured without lead stabilizer) 2. For considering GoL/CSoL, testing shall be done as follows:
a) Pipe of any size from each size group and class of pipe shall be tested for all requirements to cover pipes of all sizes in that size group and class of pipe tested. PM/ IS 4985/5/May 23 b) If plain ended pipe is covered in the licence and extension of Scope is requested for socket ended pipe, only applicable tests for socket shall be carried out. c) (i) If Type A pipe is tested, then Type B may also be covered in the licence without any further testing. (ii) If Type B is tested and then the manufacturer applies for Type A and Type B; compliance to the marking requirements as per Clause 13.1.2 of IS 4985:2021 in the form of manufacturing capabilities and in-house factory test report of any single variety of Type A pipe for the above marking requirement, will suffice for incorporation of Type A and Type B under the scope. The same shall also apply for the purpose of CSoL for including Type A pipes. d) Lead-Free (LF) pipes of each class shall be tested for all requirements to cover the additional requirement of ‘Lead-Free’ in the scope of licence, for that particular class of pipes tested. 3. The Firm shall declare the varieties of Pipes intended to be covered in the Licence. The Scope
of Licence may be restricted based on the Manufacturing and Testing capabilities of the Manufacturer. 4. During the operation of the Licence, BO shall ensure that all the types and sizes covered in the Licence are tested in rotation, to the extent possible. PM/ IS 4985/5/May 23
